Tim Gunn – A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style

There seems to be no one more qualified or equipped to ponder or even, dare I say, dictate ‘quality, taste, and style’ than Tim.” -Sarah Jessica Parker, actor/producer

I was lucky enought to attend a party hosted by Tim Gunn and Nathaniel Hawkins at the Tribeca Grand on March 5th. My sister won this by responding to a TRESemme on-line ad. Oh my goodness, what a night and what true hosts Tim and Nathaniel were. Not only were we treated liked guests, more important we felt “like royalty”. Hats off to these people who hosted a party that made “all” feel welcome. Here is to all those who made my and my sister’s journey to New York and to SOHO and to PROJECT RUNWAY so special. I love my pictures and I look at my scrapbook with wonderful memories. Tim is all he appears and more…

I’ve seen several episodes of PR and was consistently befuddled by the hooplah. I often left thinking, this is the best American design has to offer; and who are these judges? I was never really convinced that Mr. Gunn knew all that much about fashion or fashion history. Still, I thought I’d reserve my judgment until after I’d read the book even though “Make it work” has become the new “Where’s the beef.” The book is written in a writing style that perfectly exemplifies the affected personality of the character Mr. Gunn portrays on television and is punctuated by advice that is as cliched as his signature sound bites. Buy a fabulous pair of shoes instead or purchase A guide to Elegance by Genevieve Antoine Dariaux. A truly charming French woman actually employed in the fashion industry as the derectrice of Nina Ricci.

I was disappointed by this book; it lacks truly useful, pointed advice and is boring to read. Tim had very little to say, and the book lacked wit.

What a disappointment! I love Tim Gunn on Project Runway and read the 5-star reviews waxing poetic about how wonderful this book was. I was left aghast with my jaw on the floor that this book is held in such high regard. Tim Gunn may know how to direct students when it comes to designing garments, but a writer he isn’t. To say that Angelina Jolie is a style icon for her sloppy black t-shirts and jeans is hilarious. Do you really need someone to tell you how to throw out old clothes? If you haven’t ever worn it, just toss it out…’nuff said.
This book is just common-sense written with horrible, pretentious vocabulary and nothing more. Save your money for a nice pair of sale-priced ballet flats, ladies.

This book was a wonderful gift. My daughter loved it. I would also like to add that Amazaon was amazing when I made an error on the shipping address. They were able to get me another book in time for the holidays. Thank you amazon for your help.
